Australian Yoga Teachers Network - AYTN

The science of Yoga - science of self
Teaching Yoga from the heart & mind, we affirm the meaning of yoga.
To yoke - body, mind and breath.
We practice and teach Yoga for the love of the practice, with compassion and pramana (reliable knowledge).

To the best of our ability we attempt to present the whole concept, practical and intellectual within the AYTN Teacher Training Course and our Professional Development Workshops, - keeping in mind this age old tradition has many aspects, and may require more years than most of us have in this time space.

AYTN Teacher Training Courses ceased during 2007.

Professional Development Workshops

Norma continues to email Yoganet © Network News to graduates of the AYTN Courses - to inform them of planned workshops and short courses. Workshops and short courses are open to qualified teachers and advanced students from all traditions.

Yoga is a process of opening and integrating all facets of our lives. It offers clear and well-established paths, which lead us to a deeper experience and understanding of ourselves. The increased physical vitality, emotional stability and clarity of mind are a natural consequence of regular practice. Norma's Yoga classes are a non competitive blend of ancient and modern systems of personal development. Awareness is enhanced on many levels through both passive and dynamic movement routines, asanas (postures), with focus on the breath & relaxation. Individual supervision & posture modification ensure classes are suitable for all ages and levels of fitness.

Many of us are seeking some magic formula for good health and inner peace in a world that is charged with tension and anxiety.

  • How do we find it?

The answer is simply, through regular yoga practice.

  • What is Yoga All about?

Essentially, Yoga is a search for Health and well-being on two levels - physical and spiritual. It is an art of living that holds the key to youthfulness, vitality and long life. It leads to harmony and peace of mind. Its age old teachings apply with special urgency to our needs for a calmer, healthier way of life today, when tension is such an enormous problem in our society. It's needed especially by productive people who have achieved some measure of success but who continue to go through life plagued by tension. It works for people of all ages and all walks of life.

By learning simple (yet profound) breathing practices that bring oxygen to our lungs we can open up a reservoir of energy - physical and emotional. Stretching exercises (asana) relieve tension and bring energy and vitality to body and mind. Relaxation does bring physical and mental poise. Yoga doctrine does not supplant our own spiritual beliefs but rather, confirms them. Regular Yoga practice gives us the tools to find inner peace and strength.

Yoga brings to us physical and emotional fitness, peak performance of the systems of the body - regulates hormone production, the endocrine gland secretions, purifying our blood, metabolism of food, maintaining a strong immune system. It has been proven that relaxation techniques can help reduce blood pressure, aid digestion, and help relieve many other conditions.

Yoga philosophy states that in our natural state we are all relaxed, peaceful and full of joy. It is poor breathing, eating, thinking, working, relating and living habits that distract us from our naturally harmonious state. Practice of the movements (asanas) while focusing on the breath, one re-learns to rellax. With enough regular practice one discovers how to be in that relaxed, peaceful state, when in a stressful situation.
